Barcelona, 16-20 April 2010

This year’s Congress of the European Association of Urology took place in the beautiful city of Barcelona and was without doubt one of the most memorable meetings in the EAU’s congress history. Once more it was a great success, especially as the EAU celebrated its 25th anniversary. However, Iceland’s volcanic eruption nearly scuttled the event as many European airports were shut down because of the volcanic ash in the air. Despite these unforeseen complications, over 9000 medical professionals from around the world came to Barcelona and were rewarded with a well-planned and very interesting event.

ESWT for Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome

The volcanic ash also affected STORZ MEDICAL. Unfortunately, the oral poster presentation of Dr. Reinhold Zimmermann (Dept. of Urology & Andrology, Paracelsus Medical University / General Hospital Salzburg SALK, Austria) on »ESWT for Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome – Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy as a Treatment Option« had to be called off as Dr. Zimmermann’s flight was cancelled. In his presentation Dr. Zimmermann emphasizes the value of ESWT for treating CPPS, as ESWT is an easy and comparatively inexpensive application. Not much staff is needed and the treatment can be repeated at any time. He further states that ESWT could be extraordinarily attractive because patients can receive it »by the way« – meaning there is no need for interruption of employment or hospitalisation.
