The authors describe a very unusual complication of SWL of residual bile duct stones after ERCP. That SWL successfully can be used to successfully disintegrate bile duct stones has been described previously . Despite considerable experience of SWL I have never encountered rupture of a renal artery.
It is difficult to know if the large number of shock-waves; 6300 (?) contributed to the artery injury.
The major problem with SWL of bilary stones is that most of them are radiolucent and need nasobiliary administration of contrast medium,
