»Christian Chaussy Award 2021«: Award for Dr Jonathan Harper for his development of the »Burst Wave Technology« for non-contact kidney stone destruction
On 18 September 2021, Dr Jonathan Harper from Seattle, USA was awarded the »Christian Chaussy Award 2021« – a prize of the German Society for Shock Wave Lithotripsy (DGSWL) for outstanding scientific work in this medical subfield. The award ceremony took place at the 73rd Congress of the German Society of Urology (DGU) during the DGSWL meeting. There, Dr Harper presented his results on »Burst Wave Lithotripsy« in humans.
About the »Christian Chaussy Award«
The »Christian Chaussy Award« is named after Prof. Christian Chaussy, MD. On 7 February 1980, he became the first in the world to successfully treat a kidney stone patient with extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), Germany. Shortly after the first treatment, the new method was celebrated as a revolution. The German Society for Shock Wave Lithotripsy (DGSWL) has been hosting the »Christian Chaussy Award« since 2019.
