DUOLITH SD1 »ultra« in High-performance Sports

Technological progress in the field of extracorporeal shock wave therapy over the past few years has also effectively increased the range of treatment options for top class athletes. Today, focused shock wave therapy is used to treat a multitude of acute and overuse sporting injuries in order to shorten the inactive periods of athletes.

Prof Dr Karsten Knobloch's sports clinic »SportPraxis« has specialized in the treatment of top class athletes suffering from tendon problems. It carried out a study with 291 runners who run a weekly distance of 65 kilometres. The study showed that Achilles tendon problems were the main overuse injury followed by patellar tendon problems.*

Professional soccer players often run similar distances on the field considering that a running distance of 10-12 km is covered per match within 90 minutes. This is why soccer players very often suffer from Achilles tendon disorders. In Prof Knobloch's »SportPraxis« power Doppler sonography is used for establishing a diagnosis and a multi-mode treatment is started in which focused shock wave therapy plays a very significant part. Focused shock wave therapy can accompany the athletes during training and competition, which will minimize their inactive periods.
