Helping athletes reach the podium: Team Canada relies on DUOLITH® SD1 and MASTERPULS® line

Ski jumping, cross-country, ice hockey: The world's best winter athletes gathered in Vancouver, Canada for the 2010 Olympic Games. Athletes from over 80 countries inspired both the live audience and the billions of television viewers. Among the winners: STORZ MEDICAL and long-time business partner REMINGTON MEDICAL! Both companies were recognized by the Olympic Organizing Committee as »Friends of the Games« for equipping the medical infrastructure with shock wave systems.

Outstanding performances due to effective treatment

Since 2007 Robert Remington, President of REMINGTON MEDICAL, has been working very closely with »Chief Medical Officer« of Olympic Winter Games Dr. Jack Taunton. This cooperation was crowned during the Winter Games when STORZ MEDICAL and REMINGTON MEDICAL supported the Canadian team. Shock wave systems were installed in the Olympic Villages in Vancouver and Whistler, where they were used to treat the ice hockey team, the bobsleigh team and all other athletes. Chief Therapist Marc Rizzardo treated injuries and acute pain with the DUOLITH® SD1 »T-Top« and the MASTERPULS® MP100 »Elite«. In the end Canada set a new Olympic gold record when the men's ice hockey team captured Canada's 14th gold medal in a dramatic final against the U.S. on the last day of the Games.

However, STORZ MEDICAL had even more reasons to celebrate as several other athletes who rely on our innovative shock wave systems were among the winners. The South Korean figure skating superstar Yu-Na Kim won the Olympic women's figure skating title with a stunning performance and a world record score. China's »golden girls«, who were treated with a MASTERPULS® MP100 »Elite« during the Olympics, dominated the short track events and won all four titles. On top of winning the 3000 m relay in world record time, Meng Wang triumphed in the 500 m and 1000 m, while Yang Zhou won the 1500 m.

The MASTERPULS® MP100 »Elite« was also present during the olympic winter games 2014 in Sochi. The German Bobsleigh-team of Sandra Kiriasis (EC-silver) and physician Dr. Andreas Heinzinger brought along the transportable shock wave unit to improve issues with muscles and tendons in the spinal area and the extremities. During the crucial phase of preparation for Sochi 2014 the MASTERPULS® MP100 »Elite« was always at hand.
