This Editorial comment on the need of antibiotics for patients treated with SWL refers to an article published in European Urology, (the APPEAL Trial). In general, the discussion deals with choice of antibiotics and the relatively low need of antibiotics in standard SWL.
It is mentioned that there is a need of antibiotics in patients with stents and percutaneous catheters. In my opinion this need is strict and limited to percutaneous catheters but not obligatory for patients with internal stents.
